Annual Dinner & Awards Evening - December 19th

The annual Dinner and Awards Evening for 2015 was held on December 19th at Giovanni's on Great Northern Road. In attendance were 16 members and 14 guests - the guests being members' partners and other family members. The festivities were opened by President Craig Knight who introduced new and returning members and gave a brief overview of the years activities. Rino Zorzi went over the procedure for the evening and gave a brief explanation of the awards being presented. As usual, the food was excellent and well prepared.
There were two new certificates of excellence awarded this year in addition to the Stan Lyons Award. The two new certificates were given for Arborescent Perfection and for the perfection of Aquatic Immersion. The former is for the member who has consistently or in a dramatic fashion placed their aircraft in one or more of the trees of the trees around the field. If the member was being assisted by an instructor at the time(s) then the instructor too receives the award.
The certificate for Aquatic Immersion I think, is self explanatory. The award is worded the same as Arborescent Perfection except it is for water instead of trees. The award for Aquatic Perfection was presented to Rick Lortie and Cec Marshall while the award for Arborescent Perfection was presented to Larry Greco and Dave Derbyshire. Since Dave and Larry were not present they will be presented their certificates at the first opportunity.
The Stan Lyons Award was also a double award for the first time this year. It was presented to Terry Mortimore and Bob Parr by Vice President Peter Smith.
In addition to these awards, several draws were held and the names selected were presented with various prizes. One of the highlights of the evening was when Stan Pulice was presented with his lost airplane that was found by Vanessa Lefebvre. It was in a box wrapped with Christmas paper!
On behalf of the club executive, I would like to thank all those who attended especially our new friends Dennis and Melissa Henry from Sault Michigan and to officially welcome a returning member J-P Gendron and Barbara Gendron.  Hopefully we will be able to continue and have a larger turnout in the next years.
I also extend a personal thank you to Craig Knight and Vanessa Lefebvre for their assistance in preparing the area.
Rino Zorzi
