Station Mall Display - April 19th

Each year in springtime, the Soo Modellers display their latest flying machines at Station Mall. The show gives club members an opportunity to discuss the intricacies of their newest projects with each other, as well as "show off" their latest pride and joy to passers-by. The annual event helps raise awareness of the club within the community and attract new members.

This year, the models ranged in size from the largest - a 42% scale Sukhoi Su-26 aerobatic competition model as seen in the first photo - to very small electric powered models such as the Spitfire seen in photo #7. Models vary from replicas of full sized aircraft such as the electric B-17 Bomber of WW2 to traditional styles. A recent addition to the mall display are 'hands-on' flight simulators - a big hit with young and old.

These pics are from the display at Station Mall on April 19, 2014.

Bushplane Days - September

A Senior Telemaster under construction, hot coffee, fresh donut, and shameless promotion of our website. It just doesn't get better than this!

Again this year, the Soo Modellers put on a superb display of RC planes ranging from 50 cc gassers down to the smallest indoor electric models. The “flight simulators” were as busy as ever, while our upcoming indoor program and new website piqued lots interest from young and old!

The members present where kept busy promoting the hobby, describing the aircraft, handing out website cards. and putting “stickers” on the youngsters' (aka future aeromodellers) passport folders - as they got a prize when their card was full!

I’d like to thank the Bushplane Museum, on behalf of the Soo Modellers, for allowing us to promote and display our hobby/sport at their function and all the members who brought models and manned the tables. A special thank you also goes to Bob Parr, his wife Sue, and daughter Katherine for setting up our display area and doing the prep-work!

All in all it was a big success. ‘Can’t wait ‘till next year!

On Friday, December 12, 2014, 24 members and guests attended the club's annual dinner and awards evening at Giovanni's.

President Craig Knight made the opening remarks and gave a review of the year's events. This was followed by Cec Marshall - who gave a brief description of the field condition and various maintenance, improvements, and repairs over the season. After a fine dinner, Terry Mortimore gave an overview of the new flight training procedures and the success of the activities on Thursdays and weekends. He then handed out training and wings certificates to to the appropriate people in attendance.

Vice-president Peter Smith announced the recipient of this year's Stan Lyon's Award - Kevin McGrath. Unfortunately, Kevin could not attend due to illness, and the award will be presented to him at the earliest convenience.

This ended the evenings festivities... well sort of... Meurwyn and Joni Jefferies arrived - guess who forgot : -) - so many of us stayed until near closing time and conversed over many topics.
