Club Night Thursday - June 21st

Great night of flying. Almost no wind on the longest day of the year.

This is the first time I have seen 3 Hobbico Trainers at the field, 2 Hobbistar 60 ARF’s and a kit plane. Only one "incident" ...  too early to land on the river, the Float Fly is on the August long weekend.

Club Night Thursday - August 23rd

Everyone had a good evening flying, in spite of a mid air collision early in the evening. Both planes had extensive damage and probably won’t fly again, but the important and expensive parts were recovered and will live again in other aircraft. Craig maidened Ricks Citabria Pro. It looked beautiful in the air and the OS 95AX ran very well. Many other members flew there aircraft in the August still air.

New member Earl Turner flew his original design foamboard Aeronca "Champ" (based on FT Simple Cub) and was accompanied by guest Greg Farish with his .46 powered RV-4 (see photos). Both Earl & Greg are avid indoor flyers and 'regulars' at Far Valley Model Flying Club on St. Joseph Island during summertime. I think it is great to have a choice of MAAC sanctioned fields to fly at. All MAAC fliers are welcome at both locations.

As always, the public is encouraged to drop by and watch the planes fly!

Sunday - August 26th

A little “hazy” today, and not too many members present.

On a sad note, JP's SBach is no longer with us as he lost “radio signal” on landing approach and “totalled” the plane!

Club Night Thursday - September 13th

There’s a saying at the flying field “the plane doesn’t know it it’s windy”!

Ya...   but the pilot sure does! That’s what we had to put up with this evening and to top it off, it was a direct “on-shore crosswind”

Six brave souls: Earl, Rino, Larry, Rick, Joe and myself, defied the wind flew anyway! Due to the early setting sun, and only one instructor available, the three trainees: Larry, Rick, and Joe only got in one flight each before the sun went down.

It was an excellent training session on the use of rudder during take off and landing in a crosswind situation, and a lot was learned by all who flew!
Well, it’s time to pack up and hit our favourite watering hole before the dew settles on our planes.

Till next time...
