These pictures courtesy of Cec Marshall from the flying session on Sunday. Apparently, both Rino and Dave Derbyshire are fed-up with their ZDZ gas engines and each have ordered new EME gas engines.Rino a 55cc and Dave a 60cc!

July 9th

Another superb “Club Night Thursday” was entered into the log books, and we are especially pleased this week to welcome three new members to the Soo Modellers - Julian, Josh, and Nick!

Okay... so we had a few “mishaps”. Dave's Extra 300 had a rough landing and "retracted" his landing gear. Aspiring student pilot, Rick Lortie lost 3 out of 4 right aileron hinges in flight but his instructor was able to get the plane safely on the ground. Both planes will be back in the air by next week!

At dusk we headed to our favourite coffee shop to discuss the evening's events and tell some tall tales....

‘Till next time,  Cec

July 12th

Sunday July 12th was an exciting day at the field. Dennis Henry, from the Rosedale Flyers in Soo Michigan came to visit our field and is going to join our club!

Another “first” today was the successful maiden flight of Mark Primavera's 8ft. wingspan, 25cc Roto gas powered  “Telemaster”. Don’t let the size of the engine fool ‘ya, this plane is a big, slow, lazy baby and floats forever. We also had quite a few of our students out for some valuable “stick time” as well as our accomplished pilots.

Later Dudes, I’ve got some serious flying to do!

August 6th

The weather was beautiful this week for "Club Night Thursday" and everyone had a great evening! Meurwyn got a new carb for his “green machine” (30 cc S-Bach) and put in a bunch of flights with nary a “dead stick”. All the students present got in 1 or 2 training flights, while Stan, Brad, Matt, Ian, Pat ,Meurwyn ,Terry, and I got in multiple flights!

Finally, the “shades of evening” beckoned us to our favourite coffee shop, where once again we created “aviation history”!

‘Till next time.

August 13th and 16th

On Thursday evening, Steve Dew had his new Aero works 60cc Extra 260, and it flew very well. Unfortunately, Cecil's RV-8 had a structural failure (design flaw) in flight causing serious damage.

We had beautiful weather and a superb turnout on the following Sunday, and Craig Knight was able to take a few pictures...

August 20th

We were fortunate this week to have an enthusiastic group of young visitors from the Best Start Hub join us to enjoy the action on Club Night Thursday. The following text is courtesy of Krista Roe:

On Thursday, August 20th, families from the Child Care Algoma ~ Best Start Hubs met at the Soo Modellers club field to attend an interactive demonstration of how model airplanes work.  Everyone enjoyed watching just how high each airplane could fly, as well as all the different tricks that the planes could do in the air.  The children were thrilled with the hands- on activities provided by the individuals at the Soo Modellers. They even got to open up the model planes in order to fully explore how they operate!  We cannot wait to come back next year! A big thank you goes out to everyone at the Soo Modellers for making this special day possible for the families at Child Care Algoma's ~ Best Start Hub.

Thanks to Rino for organizing this event and all the club members who participated. Of course, we look forward to seeing this group from Best Start Hub again next year!

August 27th

The days are getting shorter giving us less daylight after supper but that doesn’t ground the die-hard Soo Modellers from “Club Night Thursday”!

We had two instructors, Dave Derbyshire and myself and two students Larry Greco and Rick Lortie. Both Larry and Rick got in two great flights before dusk shut us down. Everyone got some flying in before we called it quits and headed to our favourite coffee shop to discuss the evenings "events”!

Well folks-‘till next time... See ‘ ya at the field!
