Weekly Indoor Updates: January & February 2016

January 8th - Grandview

Although we were off to a late start this season, in a different venue and time slot (now Friday evenings), there is certainly no lack of enthusiasm for indoor flying by the Soo Modellers and friends! Eleven pilots shared the airspace non-stop for three hours at our first ever flying session at Grandview Public School. And oh, what fun we had!

January 15th - Parkland

A smaller group this week, in a smaller gym, but no less enthusiastic - and the gym at Parkview Public School was buzzing with flying machines non-stop for 3 hours. Indoor airplanes made of EPP (crash resistant) foam are well suited for these smaller gyms - especially those with a tight turning radius, such as the EZ-3D Trainer, Sumo, and Su-27. The airbugs are a challenge on the smaller floor, but great fun was had by all - especially Cecil's pace car start!

January 22nd - Grandview

Lots of airborne action again this week in the "large" gym, as seen in this awesome set of photos (below) by Peter Smith.

January 29th - Parkland

We seem to be getting accustomed to the smaller gym, and great fun was had by all! We had excellent attendance, and the action was non-stop again this week.

February 12th - Grandview

Despite strong winds and -25C outside, the flying weather indoors at Grandview was perfect! After a two week break, several new models made their first appearance this week, as seen below.

February 19th - Parkland

A milestone this week, with the first ever FPV (first person view) flight indoors by the Soo Modellers! George test flew a pair of FPV quads - the E-Flight Nano "heavy lifter" and Eachine 250 "racer". Truly amazing stuff, and will take some practice to fly these...

February 25th - Grandview

More milestones this week, including first-ever flight by an annular wing (ak. ring wing) aircraft - bravo Tom! The indoor FPV experiments continued this week as well, with first-ever 'fixed wing' flights: controlled by first person view - using both screen and goggles.

As there was another function elsewhere at the school, we were pleased to have a small group of very enthusiast young spectators - and you can hear them (at a 'quieter' moment :-) in this weeks video >>>  Micro annular wing, Sumos & Edge 540 at Grandview
